Denpasar: A poetry anthology titled Denpasar lan Don Pasar (Denpasar and Target Market) will be launched this Sunday to commemorate the city’s 226th anniversary, which falls on Feb. 27.
The book will be launched by Denpasar Mayor Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra at the city’s Cultural Agency.
Nyoman Darma Putra, one of the poets who contributed to the book, said it featured 100 poems in the Balinese language created by 34 poets.
In 2012, Darma Putra was one of several poets who published an anthology about Denpasar titled Dendang Denpasar Nyiur Sanur.
The launch event will feature a stage performance by Widya Acarya art group. The Denpasar-based group will perform a drama inspired by one of the poems in the book titled “Ida Bagus Mantra” by IDG Windhu Sancaya.
Balinese literary expert I Wayan Westa will also present a review of the poems.
The poems tell of the changes to the capital city of Bali province, including the city’s landmarks, such as Puputan Badung, Sanur Beach, Tukad Badung, Jaganatha Temple and Bali Museum.
Denpasar lan Don Pasar features the works of three generations of poets. The early generation, from the 1960s, comprises I Nyoman Manda, I Gde Dharna, the late I Made Sanggra, IGP Bawa Samargantang, Nyoman Tusthi Eddy, Djelantik Santha and Made Taro.
The second generation, which was active during the 1980s to 1990s, comprises I Made Suarsa, IDK Rakakusuma, IDG Windhu Sancaya and Ida Bagus Rai Putra.
While the third generation, active from the 2000s, contributing to this book is Tudekamatra, Made Sugianto, Agoes Sutrarama, Putu Eka Gunayasa and young female poets such as Luh Yési Candrika, Déwa Ayu Carma Citrawati, Ni Madé Ari Dwijayanthi and Ni Kadék Widiasih.
